Que Son Las Carillas Dentales
Welcome to our Vital clinic and the
channel of two doctors. When we talk about
the famous veneers or the English term
liners, we must first know what we mean
when we talk about veneers. We are referring
to a restoration that we perform
which only involves the front
of the teeth. We call them partial restorations.
From this point of view, veneers
can be divided according to
their thickness or the wear of the
teeth. In the first group, we have the famous
ceramic lenses or ultra-thin veneers
that are minimally invasive. We are talking about
a thickness between 0.3 to 0.4 millimeters
where we try to preserve as much as possible.
Logically, these veneers, also called
lenses, are transparent. So if I want to
slightly change the shape or improve
the surface of the tooth, they are indicated.
But they are not indicated if I want to make
a significant change in the color of the teeth,
especially if I am a dentist who values
the importance of size and proportions
of the teeth, which must be respected.
Sometimes, we see on television
unprepared veneers, so if we don’t touch
the teeth, we will have veneers that
will come off the contour of the teeth.
We will have teeth that are too large and teeth that
will have functional and biological problems.
This will cause irritation and inflammation
of the gums, and patients will have difficulty
biting properly. They may become frustrated
and have problems, and they will not be satisfied
with the results. These veneers are indicated
when we have minor wear and minor adjustments, or both.
The classic veneers we are already talking about
thicknesses from 0.7 to 1 millimeter
are also fabricated in the laboratory, where
I can make more significant changes.
Of course, I will have to remove more
dental enamel, but I can change the color.
Very yellow teeth or teeth with chips can be corrected
with this type of veneers. We can also
improve the shape and contours, always taking into
account the proportions that are shown.
The advantages of veneers are that
they are aesthetically ideal materials
that maintain their shape and color over time.
They do not change color like resin veneers,
which we sometimes make. Porcelain veneers are
more durable restorations and if done well,
they are highly aesthetic. We have to be careful
with veneers and be cautious about what we eat
because if we eat foods that are too crunchy or hard,
like bones or pork rinds, we may end up fracturing them.
It is also very important for these patients
to use centric relation plates, bruxism plates,
and night plates so that when we are sleeping,
if we grind our teeth, we do not damage them.
Technology is also very important in using veneers,
the laboratory where they are made must be an exquisite one
in this type of technology, and the technique
for placing them on the teeth is a meticulous process
by the dentist. But if the veneers are
well crafted, well designed, well cemented,
and above all, if the patient is carefully chosen,
I assure you that these restorations will last for many years
and will generate very satisfied patients.
