Are you considering a career in dental hygiene? Look no further! Iowa Central’s Dental Hygiene Program is the perfect choice for you. Unlike other programs, we DO NOT HAVE A WAITING LIST. Our program is selective with limited enrollment, and each year we start fresh with a new application, interview, and selection process.
Comprehensive Oral Health Care and Preventative Education
Our Dental Hygiene Program is designed to prepare students to provide comprehensive therapeutic oral health care and preventative education to diverse population groups. As an integral part of the dental team, dental hygienists play a vital role in oral health care services. From oral assessments and cancer screenings to removing deposits from the teeth and administering local anesthesia, our graduates are equipped with the skills to make a real difference.
Exciting Career Opportunities
After graduation, Dental Hygiene students have a wide range of career opportunities. You could work in private dental offices, hospitals, nursing homes, public health clinics, and even in education, research, office management, business administration, or as dental company representatives. The possibilities are endless!
To progress in the dental hygiene program, students must earn a grade of “C” or better in all required dental hygiene courses. We maintain high standards to ensure that our graduates are well-prepared for the challenges of the profession.
Our students gain valuable clinical experience at the Iowa Central Dental Hygiene Clinic located at the Fort Dodge Campus. To participate in clinical sessions, students must complete a medical health form and certification in basic cardiac life support. Additionally, students are required to purchase their own dental hygiene instruments and other personal protective materials. Please note that transportation to various community projects is the responsibility of the student.
As a licensed profession, Dental Hygiene applicants are asked about their criminal history and any prior drug or intoxicant use. A criminal history or habitual drug use can affect licensure or licensure registration.
We understand the financial challenges of pursuing an education. That’s why we offer various scholarship opportunities such as the Last Dollar Scholar, Iowa Dental Foundation, and the American Dental Hygiene Association. Don’t miss out on these amazing opportunities!
Accreditation and Credibility
Rest assured, Iowa Central’s Dental Hygiene Program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. We have been granted the accreditation status of “approval with reporting requirements.” This specialized accrediting body is recognized by the United States Department of Education. You can contact the Commission on Dental Accreditation at (312) 440-4653 or visit their website at coda.ada.org for more information.
